5 tips from a professional: how to take high-quality photos with your smartphone
We take photos and videos on our phones every day. However, we must admit that the quality of such content is below criticism.
SSPDaily investigated the problem and published a story on whether it is possible to take professional photos with a smartphone. Here are some tips from the experts.
Organize your camera
Wipe the front and rear camera lenses with a microfiber cloth to get rid of fingerprints or dirt.
Make sure you know the specifications of your device as well. If you're shooting something important, switch the camera to 4K.
The same goes for photos. Your phone probably has many optimized modes for taking good pictures, depending on the scenario. Find them and set the right ones.
Check your storage
High-quality photos take up a lot of space. If you plan to take photos professionally, check your phone's internal storage. Take a test shot with the settings you set, and then check the file size of the photo. This will give you a rough idea of how many images will fit before you run out of space.
Take photos in natural light
Natural light is better than artificial light, but there are nuances.
Here are two rules of thumb:
- Don't take pictures of people standing directly under the light as it will highlight their physical flaws. Soft natural light is more convenient in this regard.
- Let your subject look at the light so that it highlights their facial features. In natural light, this means facing the sun.
Pro tip: photographers like to take pictures of people on cloudy days when there is enough light outside and it is not too bright.
Use a tripod
Depending on what you're photographing, a tripod can make a big difference. In particular, it makes it easy to determine the optimal height and fix your smartphone. Such devices are inexpensive and quite useful.
Tip: a tripod is ideal for group photos. With a tripod, you don't have to think about how to adjust your phone and then be afraid that it will fall.
The golden rule
Have you ever wondered why you need a grid in your smartphone camera? You can use it to apply the golden ratio rule. According to this law, all key elements should be located along the lines, not in the middle of the square. This will ensure balance and the desired dynamics of the image.
Tall objects, such as trees or buildings, should correspond to the upper corners of the central frame. The smallest objects should be located on the bottom line of the center frame.
Don't wait for the perfect moment
It is difficult to capture motion on your own. Burst mode will help you with this. This feature allows the camera to take pictures faster than in manual mode.
On almost every smartphone that supports it, you can activate burst mode by holding down the shutter button.
