This creamy, flavorful homemade tomato soup features fresh tomatoes and milk. It's a delicious alternative to brand-name soups.
Ingredients
- 2 large tomatoes, chopped
- ½ cup chopped onion
- ½ teaspoon white sugar
- Salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
Directions
- In a saucepan, combine chopped tomatoes, onion, sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook until the onion is soft, about 5 to 10 minutes. Strain the broth into a bowl, discarding solids.
- Melt butter in a separate saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the flour and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 3 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the mixture thickens, about 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in the strained tomato broth and heat through for an additional 5 to 6 minutes. Serve hot.
