When you have heartburn, stomach acid flows from the stomach into the esophagus, which causes acute and sometimes unpleasant chest pain. SSPDaily has prepared some proven tips to help get rid of this problem.

Watch your diet

Some foods can trigger or aggravate heartburn symptoms. In particular, spicy and sour foods, fatty foods, chocolate, caffeine, and carbonated drinks. Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. In addition, try to eat smaller meals more often to reduce the strain on your stomach.

Maintain good posture

Poor posture can put pressure on the abdomen and stomach, which leads to acid reflux. To solve this problem, sit or stand up straight and do not slouch after eating. If you are working at a computer, use an ergonomic chair and place the monitor at eye level.

Maintain your water balance

Drinking enough water dilutes stomach acid and reduces the likelihood of reflux. However, do not drink a lot of fluids during meals, as this can increase the pressure on the stomach.

Fight stress

Stress and anxiety can trigger or exacerbate heartburn symptoms. Therefore, try to relieve stress with deep breathing exercises, yoga, or outdoor activities. Activities that bring joy and relaxation can have a significant impact on the health of the digestive system.

Avoid tight clothing

Wearing tight clothing, especially around the waist, can increase pressure in the abdomen and contribute to heartburn. Choose loose and comfortable clothes that do not compress the abdomen.

Give up smoking

Smoking is associated with numerous health problems, including heartburn. It weakens the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), a muscle that prevents stomach acid from backing up into the esophagus. By eliminating unhealthy habits, you can improve your overall health and reduce the frequency of heartburn.

Chewing gum

Chewing sugar-free chewing gum after meals can be helpful for people who suffer from heartburn. It stimulates saliva production, which helps to neutralize stomach acid.
