How to properly care for cyclamen in winter: three useful tips
Cyclamen, a charming herbaceous perennial native to Asia Minor, is famous for its beautiful flowers that easily brighten up any space. Ensuring proper care of this delicate flower during the winter months is essential to maintain its attractive appearance for a long period of time. SSPDaily has revealed some of the secrets of successful cyclamen care in winter.
Soil
To grow cyclamen, you need to use light soil with a slightly acidic pH of 5.5 to 6.5. The substrate should provide optimal nutrition while remaining moisture and air permeable. Ready-made substrate can be easily purchased at your local store, or you can create your own by mixing turf, perlite and sand in a 1:2:1 ratio.
The right location
Choose a cool room with temperatures no higher than +14 °C. As a light-loving plant, cyclamen prefers diffused sunlight. Therefore, it is ideal to place it on the east or west windowsill, and in winter, placement near the southern windows gives favorable results.
Watering
Use settled, clean water to water the cyclamen. It is better to wait until the substrate is completely dry before the next watering. When watering, try not to get the leaves and flowers of the plant wet. During the flowering period, water it 1-2 times a week, and during the dormant period, reduce the frequency of watering to once every 10 days.
