Hundred Dragons Elevator: what the world's tallest street elevator looks like. Photos and video
The tallest street elevator in the world is the Bailong Elevator as it is called in China or the Hundred Dragons Elevator.
It lifts tourists 330 meters above the ground to a mountain-top observation deck in Zhangjiajie National Park in China's Hunan Province.
This modern engineering marvel is equipped with three glass cabins, each capable of accommodating about fifty passengers and taking them up or down in one minute.
Sometimes, tourists stand in line for about four hours to ride this miracle lift, and this does not stop them.
Construction of the elevator began in October 1999, and it was opened to the public in 2002. The environmental impact of the elevator was the subject of much discussion as it was designated a World Heritage Site in 2002. The elevator was suspended for 10 months in 2002-2003 due to safety concerns.
