Borussia Dortmund Welcomes Yan Couto On Loan
Manchester City's Brazilian right-back, Yan Couto, has finalized his transfer to Borussia Dortmund. The deal delves into an initial loan agreement, carrying a significant £25.3 million (30 million euros) obligation to secure his permanent move if specific performance criteria are met. This is reported by SSP.
The 22-year-old expressed his delight at the new journey: "For me, it’s a dream come true. Borussia Dortmund is a special club. Every child in Brazil knows how great this club is and the passionate fans, especially the famous Yellow Wall. I can’t wait to wear the BVB shirt for the first time and experience the power and emotions in this brilliant stadium."
Couto's journey with Manchester City started in 2020 when he was acquired from Cortiba FC for £5 million. Despite never making a senior appearance for the Premier League champions, he gained valuable competitive experience through multiple loan spells. Initially loaned to Girona for the 2020-21 season, he contributed significantly over the next three seasons, including a brief stint with Braga in Portugal for the 2021-2022 campaign. His efforts helped Girona achieve a respectable third-place finish in La Liga, thereby securing their spot in this season's Champions League.
Overall, the Brazilian international made 95 appearances while on loan at Girona, scoring five goals and assisting 17 times, demonstrating his potential and growing expertise. Borussia Dortmund opted for this strategic acquisition to bolster their squad following a fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga last season.
Under the watch of new manager Nuri Sahin, Dortmund aims to fortify their roster to improve their standing, especially after a challenging campaign marked by managerial changes and their recent runner-up status in the Champions League.
