Gross Completes Move to Boyhood Club Dortmund
Pascal Gross has made an exciting move back to his home country of Germany, leaving Brighton and Hove Albion to join Borussia Dortmund. The 33-year-old German midfielder, who previously played for Ingolstadt, played an impressive 261 games during his time at Brighton since 2017. Last season, he showcased his skills in the Premier League, appearing in 36 matches, scoring four goals, and providing three assists. Eurosport reported.
The transfer sees Gross sign a two-year contract with Borussia Dortmund, with the transfer fee reported to be approximately £6 million. Prior to his Dortmund move, Gross was part of Julian Nagelsmann's Euro 2024 squad but had limited playing time during the tournament.
During his tenure at Brighton, Gross made a significant impact, contributing 32 goals and 52 assists over 261 appearances. His versatility on the field allowed him to play various roles, including central midfield, out wide, and even as a full-back. As a result, he was voted as the fans' player of the season twice, in the 2017-18 and 2023-24 campaigns.
Commenting on the transfer, Borussia Dortmund's managing director, Lars Ricken, expressed his satisfaction with capturing Gross, highlighting his development as a top performer in recent years. Ricken also praised Gross for his experience, leadership qualities, and positive influence, highlighting his commitment to the club as an early supporter.
Meanwhile, BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl also expressed excitement, acknowledging Gross's exceptional ball control, passing ability, positioning, and versatility. Gross's presence on the field adds new dimensions to the team, providing both calmness and threatening goal opportunities. Kehl emphasized that Gross's winning mentality and strong personality would strengthen the squad.
