Yorkshire Head Coach Ottis Gibson To Leave Team After Season End
Yorkshire's first-team head coach, Ottis Gibson, will leave the club at the end of the season. Gibson, a former West Indies fast bowler and England bowling coach, joined Yorkshire in 2021, merely a year after Azeem Rafiq accused the club of institutional racism. This is prepared by SSP.
Yorkshire faced a demotion to County Championship Division Two in 2022 and received a 48-point penalty by the England and Wales Cricket Board the following year for their mishandling of the Rafiq case. "Despite off-field issues impacting the playing side, I am proud of the squad’s development and our contention for promotion," said Gibson.
He continued, "I want to thank my staff, players, and supporters for their unwavering support during my tenure. I wish Yorkshire all the best in the future."
Under Gibson’s leadership, the team's Championship performance improved, and they are now just four points away from the promotion spots with five games left. Yorkshire has commenced the search for a new head coach.
Colin Graves, reappointed as club chairman this season, praised Gibson's contributions: "Working with Ottis has been a pleasure. Despite challenging circumstances, the foundational work he's laid is evident in the team's current performances."
