Apple to Bid Farewell to USB-A With Upcoming Mac Mini
Apple's revamped Mac Mini may debut without USB-A ports, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter. The new Mac Mini desktops are anticipated to be stocked in Apple's warehouses by September, with a high-end variant featuring the M4 Pro chip set to release in October, Gurman details. This new model, running on Apple's M4 Pro chip, will still host multiple connectivity options, boasting five USB-C ports (two in the front and three in the rear), an Ethernet port, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack. Interestingly, this Mac Mini is also slated to have an internal power supply.
For over a decade, the Mac Mini's design has remained largely unchanged, last significantly updated in 2010. However, Gurman suggests a major redesign coming this fall. While USB-C ports have begun to replace the traditional USB-A ports across various Apple devices, this shift might be disconcerting for some users accustomed to the older format. Nonetheless, the transition to a modernized design could be a welcome change.
Additionally, Apple has planned a "Glowtime" press event on September 9, where the company is expected to unveil the latest iPhone 16. Details regarding the new Mac Mini line-up might be disclosed later in the fall, aligning with the anticipated public release.
