DJI Neo: An Exciting New Small Drone with Potential FPV Capabilities
DJI's upcoming Neo drone is promising to be one of the company's most fun releases, featuring impressively small dimensions and potential compatibility with FPV (First Person View) headsets, TechRadar reported. Regular DJI leaker @JasperEllens on X (formerly Twitter) has disclosed the probable dimensions: 157mm x 130mm x 49mm, making it DJI's smallest drone yet.
Despite its small size, the Neo won't have a foldable design, meaning it won't be much smaller or as portable as a folded DJI Mini 4 Pro, aligning more closely with the DJI Avata 2's mini version. A comparative post by @hakasushi highlights the dimensional differences between the Neo and the Avata 2 while noting the Neo’s miniature stature might make it more susceptible to high winds.
An intriguing, yet unconfirmed, aspect is whether the Neo will support FPV headsets like the DJI Goggles 3. A Reddit post speculates on this compatibility, based on a software screenshot showing the Neo listed among compatible drones. However, conflicting leaks suggest it may not have FPV capabilities and instead compete with hover drones like the HoverAir X1, priced at $349 on Amazon.
The Neo is also suggested to be an affordable choice, possibly bundled in a 'Fly More' kit for around $329. Given that FPV goggles like those from DJI cost significantly more, any FPV feature might be a minor bonus rather than a central aspect.
Anticipated by some as an entry-level, user-friendly drone that may attract beginner hobbyists, the Neo could also draw those interested in 'Cinewhoop'-style indoor filming without the need for extensive DIY adjustments typically associated with FPV drones.
DJI, while having yet to officially comment, seems close to unveiling the Neo, evidenced by leaked retail packaging. It might not be as compact in all aspects compared to existing models, but still, it promises stabilized 4K footage, subject tracking, and QuickShots support.
The company is also working on the Air 3S and the Mavic 4, expanding its innovative product lineup, with potential new details continuing to surface.
