Fight inflammation and discomfort: what natural remedies help with burns
Burns are a common problem for vacationers at resorts every summer. Tourists who are not adapted to hot climates risk facing the consequences of prolonged exposure to scorching sun. Natural remedies can help fight burning, redness, and other symptoms.
If you don't have a first aid kit at hand, Professor Maureen Baker, former chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners, advises looking into the kitchen. She spoke about this in a conversation with the Mirror.
"Aloe vera is the best known natural remedy for sunburn. There is good evidence that using aloe vera gel or lotion can help soothe and cool your skin," the expert said.
Chilled baths of oatmeal crushed to a fine powder also soothe the inflamed area of the body. Scientific studies, according to the professor, have found that some compounds in oatmeal absorb ultraviolet rays.
"Studies have also shown that honey, especially manuka honey from New Zealand, has antibacterial properties that can help treat burns," Maureen Baker added.
