iOS 18: Enhanced Video Recording Without Audio Interruption
With the release of iOS 18, Apple has introduced a noted improvement: the ability to shoot video while playing audio on an iPhone without any interruptions, 9to5Mac reported. Previously, when video recording was initiated, any ongoing audio playback would stop immediately.
In earlier versions, Apple provided a workaround by allowing users to record video from the photo mode of the camera app by long-pressing the shutter button. However, this method had some limitations, including reduced video quality at 1080p and 30fps.
Starting with iOS 18, this issue has been resolved. Users can now seamlessly shoot video while their music, podcast, or other audio continues to play. This feature works regardless of whether the audio is played through AirPods or the iPhone’s speakers.
This update is particularly beneficial for activities such as recording video from a mounted iPhone during motorcycle rides while listening to music through a helmet, without audio interruptions.
For those interested in trying out this feature, the iOS 18 beta is currently available, though it may be advisable to wait for the stable release expected in September.
The integration of this seemingly simple yet useful feature enriches the user experience, and it's puzzling why it took Apple so long to implement it. At any rate, it’s a welcome addition that showcases how minor changes can significantly enhance usability.
