The DJI Neo: A Promising 4K Drone with Fun and Affordability
Recent leaks hint that the DJI Neo may be DJI's most enjoyable and accessible 4K drone in years. First glimpsed only days ago, further leaks have now provided more comprehensive specs, suggesting it could be the company's lightest drone to date.
DJI insider @JasperEllens shared images of the DJI Neo's retail packaging, revealing features like "AI Subject Tracking," "4K Ultra-Stabilized Video," and "Full-Coverage Propellor Guards." Notably, the Neo weighs just 135g, lighter than DJI's Avata 2 (377g) and Mini 4 Pro (249g), but heavier than the Ryze Tello (80g), which utilizes DJI technology but is produced by Ryze.
The Neo's 'Fly More Combo' bundle leak, priced at around $329 (approximately £320 / AU$515), includes three batteries, a charging hub, and spare props. A more economical base version is anticipated, though details about FPV (first-person view) headset compatibility with DJI Goggles 3 and the integration of Ocusync 4 are still uncertain. If it does support FPV, the Neo could be a perfect, compact 'cinewhoop' drone for indoor cinematic shots, resembling a mini DJI Avata 2.
Drone enthusiasts seeking budget-friendly options might find the DJI Neo an exciting upgrade from the aging DJI Mini 2 SE. With features like AI-powered subject tracking, the Neo is poised to rival 'hover' drones such as the HoverAir X1, ideal for lightweight travel and social video capture. The inclusion of propellor guards hints at an evolutionary link to DJI Avata's entry-level FPV models.
At a significantly lower price point than the Avata 2's bundle ($999 / £879 / AU$1,499), the Neo could attract both novice filmmakers and those curious about indoor FPV shots, potentially becoming one of DJI's most successful launches in recent times.
