X is Testing a New Video Conferencing Tool
Elon Musk’s X is expanding its horizons beyond job listings and payment services, where it competes with LinkedIn and PayPal, respectively. The company is now venturing into the video conferencing market, aiming to rival established tools like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. This is prepared by SSP.
Recently, Chris Park, an employee at X, announced that the company had successfully conducted its first internal conference using their new video tool. Park reported positive feedback from the team, indicating strong initial impressions. The company is likely to focus on enhancing features such as speaker pinning and better notifications for participant entry and exit.
Elon Musk indirectly confirmed this development by responding to Park's post with a fire emoji, highlighting the lack of formal press communications under his leadership. App researcher P4mui discovered that users will be able to initiate or schedule meetings directly from the iOS app, akin to other conferencing platforms. Another app researcher, Nima Owji, noted that hosts might be able to set unique access codes for each meeting.
Although there is no confirmed release date or rollout plan, it is possible that X will incorporate its existing live video streaming feature from X Spaces into the new conferencing tool, similar to the functionalities of Zoom and Google Meet. Observers should also heed past privacy issues, such as the universal activation and lack of default IP masking in X's calling feature. It's critical for X to address privacy and security measures before making the conferencing tool widely available.
Given X’s success with Spaces, the new X Conference may be a reliable choice for your next business meeting—assuming it becomes publicly available.
