Five things to know about Rihanna
In the world of fame, fashion, and all the glitz and glamor of celebrity life in 2023, few shine as brightly as Rihanna. From her beauty empire to her uninterrupted reign as one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, she is a true icon of our time. However, let's dig deeper. Here are five intriguing facts about the baddest girl you probably didn't know.
A rave-style baby shower
Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky welcomed their first child last May, but did you know that their baby shower was rave-themed? In a conversation with Vogue editor Chioma Nnadi, Rihanna revealed her unique approach to celebrating her upcoming motherhood.
There are no traditional brunches or pastel colors for her. Rihanna wanted a party, a wild party. "I want everyone to be drunk and crawling out. And it has to be a communal party!" she said. Rihanna knows how to throw a party that will be remembered for a long time.
Early album deal
Rihanna's rapid rise to fame began at an extremely young age. At the age of 16, she signed her first contract. The legendary producer and president of Def Jam, Jay-Z, was so impressed with her demo that he negotiated with the label's lawyers until the morning to get her signature. Imagine a world without Rihanna's iconic albums, including Anti. It almost became a reality.
Cameo in the movie Bring It On: All or Nothing
Long before she became a headliner at the Super Bowl halftime show or a mom, Rihanna made a cameo appearance as herself in the 2006 movie Bring It On: All or Nothing. This movie about cheerleaders starred Hayden Panettiere and Solange Knowles as rivals. The winning team in the movie even got the opportunity to appear in Rihanna's music video.
Rihanna's cadet years
In her native Barbados, Rihanna was once a cadet in the army under a military program. Singer and songwriter Shontelle played the role of a drill sergeant and gave orders to young Rihanna.
"This is what drill sergeants do. We command the cadets, we make them do push-ups... especially when they're late for parade," Shontelle recalled in a 2009 BBC interview.
Just imagine Rihanna in military boots and athletic uniform, crawling through the mud during her cadet years.
Rituals before the show
Rihanna's pre-show rituals are a combination of the ordinary and the unexpected. She starts with the usual procedures: vocal warm-up, makeup, and a Skype session with her vocal coach. But here's the most interesting thing: she has a personal assistant who acts as a bartender. This assistant mixes her a special cocktail, often diluted with something milder, such as orange juice or soda water with lime.
Rihanna takes this cocktail seriously, using it to calm her nerves. "I take it very seriously, so there's always a certain level of anxiety," she explained. Rihanna's dedication to her craft even extends to sneaking into the venue in a large hoodie to make it to the start of a concert.
