Ben Affleck's Involvement in Jennifer Lopez's Documentary and Subsequent Divorce: Critics and Context
Ben Affleck played a substantial role in Jennifer Lopez's documentary about their marriage, according to various insiders. Sources told People that the "Gone Girl" actor was deeply involved in the creation of Prime Video’s "The Greatest Love Story Never Told," connected to Lopez's project "This Is Me…Now: A Love Story" and her album. Insiders revealed Affleck, 52, controlled much of the process and was behind pushing Lopez to undertake the film and documentary.
Reports initially seemed to suggest Affleck was hesitant about the project and its portrayal but insiders clarified this was misleading, as he was central in its development. "He was very supportive of Lopez making the movie and the album," one source noted. Despite his enthusiasm, the documentary oddly gives the impression that Affleck was taken aback by its creation. This perhaps owes to his desire to shape the narrative; he eventually took the final cut away from the director to ensure it matched his vision.
Although Lopez, 55, was concentrating on her ninth studio album and related video project, Affleck's company, Artists Equity, prompted the documentary idea – a decision initially met with reluctance by Lopez’s team. Another source mentioned the perplexity surrounding Affleck’s public demeanor regarding the documentary since he was involved and proud but came across as surprisingly disengaged in the film. Affleck’s active participation suggested he supported their shared public life, contrasting post-split narratives on his dissatisfaction with their life on display.
Lopez filed for divorce on Aug. 20 after two years of the rekindled relationship, marking their second split since reuniting in 2022 following an initial breakup in 2004. With irreconcilable differences cited, further reports highlighted Affleck's evolving personal life and connections, including time spent with Kick Kennedy, amid these personal shifts.
Throughout the summer, apart from public engagements, the pair lived separately. Lopez remained largely low-key post-divorce filing, aside from subtle social media engagements. Meanwhile, industry insiders described mutual attempts to salvage their love but acknowledged their relationship issues rapidly leading to the divorce.
