Nicole Kidman Says She Felt 'Exposed' While Filming Babygirl
Nicole Kidman recently discussed her experience filming the new erotic thriller "Babygirl". The film, directed by Halina Reijn, revolves around Romy, an ambitious CEO, played by Kidman, who becomes entangled in a risky affair with Samuel, a younger intern portrayed by Harris Dickinson. Antonio Banderas stars as Romy’s husband. The story not only delves into their sexual relationship but also explores themes of desire, secrets, marriage, power, consent, and generational differences in intimacy. This is preared by SSP.
Kidman described the filming experience as deeply intimate and felt a mix of vulnerability and liberation throughout the process. She remarked, "This leaves me exposed, vulnerable, and scared when it’s released to the public," adding that collaborating with the cast and crew was a delicate and empathetic journey. She emphasized how working under the direction of Reijn, known for her prior film "Bodies Bodies Bodies," was unique due to the female-centric perspective.
Reijn sought inspiration from erotic thrillers of the 80s and 90s and aimed to portray a woman's desires without punishment, a refreshing deviation from similar genres. She emphasized that "Babygirl" acts as a cautionary tale highlighting the consequences of suppressing one’s desires.
The film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and received acclaim, further performances scheduled in Toronto before A24 releases it in North America on December 25, 2024. Kidman's portrayal, along with Dickinson’s and Banderas’, navigates the complexities of personal and professional disruptions brought by forbidden love, making "Babygirl" a significant and thought-provoking piece poised to spark conversations on these enduring themes.
