Scotty McCreery Halts Concert After Alleged Assault on Woman in Audience
Country singer and former American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, took decisive action during his performance at the Colorado State Fair after witnessing a troubling incident in the crowd, People reported. The singer, aged 30, was partway through his set on Saturday, August 24, when he noticed a man allegedly hitting a woman in the audience. Concertgoer Jessica Rosario captured the moment on video, showing McCreery pausing at the beginning of his song "It Matters To Her." Rosario recounted, "Scotty was discussing his wife Gabi Dugal's favorite song when he spotted the altercation and immediately intervened, halting the show and calling for security."
McCreery directly addressed the man from the stage, saying, "Right here, that’s a lady you just hit, sir," and continued by ensuring security removed the man. "Absolutely not, you just hit the lady. Police? Security? Is she okay? Get the heck out of here."
The concert footage reveals McCreery calling the situation "absolutely unacceptable," questioning, "On God’s green earth. At a Scotty McCreery show? What are you doing?" and urged the police and security to handle the offender. Confirming the situation with the crowd, he asserted, "Whoever you are, that’s the definition of a coward, hitting a lady. Get the heck out of here."
People in the front row identified the assaulter, who was eventually escorted out by security. The identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed, and it remains unverified if the man was arrested.
In response to the incident, Olga Robak, director of communications with The Colorado Department of Agriculture, confirmed, "An incident occurred where a man assaulted a woman, and Scotty McCreery intervened by stopping the concert." She also added that the security team assisted in crowd control and the matter remains under investigation.
