IKEA Sets New World Record to Promote Better Sleep
In a remarkable feat, IKEA gathered 2,052 employees at its first store in Älmhult, Sweden, breaking the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD title for the largest gathering of people wearing two-piece pajamas at a single venue. This achievement marks the kickoff of a year-long initiative aimed at enhancing sleep quality globally, IKEA reported.
"We're thrilled about our collective effort in underscoring the significance of good sleep," says Fredrika Inger, Managing Director of IKEA of Sweden. "Quality sleep benefits everyone, and by prioritizing it, we believe we can make substantial improvements. Simple changes, like selecting the right pillow or optimizing lighting, can result in significant improvements. Our aim is to make such adjustments accessible to all, ensuring that everyone can achieve good sleep."
IKEA has launched a dedicated year-long campaign to address the prevalent struggle of attaining quality rest, which remains an issue despite widespread acknowledgment of its importance. According to the IKEA Life at Home report, 55% of individuals consider sleep their most vital well-being activity at home, yet about half of adults still report dissatisfaction with their rest, impacting daily life and work performance.
Tolga Öncü, COO at IKEA Retail (Ingka Group), notes, "Our customers' growing interest in sleep for years is clear – they seek more tips, solutions, and convenience in creating an optimal sleep setup. In FY25, our objective is to reach millions more and help them improve their sleep and daily lives."
IKEA's approach integrates comprehensive development in the sleep environment. For decades, IKEA has engineered well-designed, functional, and affordable solutions that tackle key factors influencing sleep: comfort, sound, light, air, temperature, and decluttering.
A major focus has been improving mattress quality using fewer materials for better comfort at reduced costs. The IKEA Comfort Lab in Älmhult has been instrumental, employing both virtual and physical tools to tailor mattresses to varying needs.
"Our innovation journey in sleep products aims to enhance every aspect of the home for better rest," adds Fredrika Inger. "Our research-backed, rigorously tested sleep solutions meet diverse consumer needs and preferences, ensuring durability, affordability, and optimal comfort across various lifestyles."
