Woman Forced to Marry Despite Boyfriend's Cheating
While many brides envision a perfect wedding, one woman immediately pictured her divorce instead. This is prepared by SSP.
This bride planned a destination wedding with her child's father. Yet, after discovering the events of his stag do, she wished to cancel everything. With flights and venue costs covered, her father urged her to continue with the wedding, insisting she put on a happy facade.
According to a friend who shared the story on Reddit, the details were troubling. "She planned a costly destination wedding with a man she had a tumultuous relationship with," the friend wrote. "They had a one-year-old child together. He cheated on her repeatedly during his bachelor party. Just days before the trip, she attempted to cancel the wedding, but her dad said, 'Nope, everything’s paid for already.' With guests already committed, cancelling proved difficult."
Shortly after returning home, the bride contacted a lawyer and filed for divorce. Her friend added that societal pressure also contributed. "Couples who have been together a long time and share a child often feel 'forced' into marriage," she noted.
Several commentators criticized the father’s response. One user expressed their disdain, suggesting he could have apologized to guests and tried for a group holiday instead of proceeding with the ceremony. Another user shared their personal experience, recalling that their father had offered support at their wedding, suggesting it was not too late to back out if they wanted.
A further comment highlighted another unfortunate marriage. A different user recounted their experience of ending a marriage less than a year after saying "I do." The bride learned her husband was unfaithful, complicating trusting relationships.
"The swift divorce relieved burdens brought by dishonesty," she reported. "Though difficult for my son, I found a loving husband shortly after. Now, 24 years later, I remain happily married."
