Do you know how many times the girls from the TV series "Sex and the City" left Manhattan?
The main characters of the famous TV series "Sex and the City" - Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbs, Samantha Jones, and Charlotte York - lived, worked, and loved mostly in Manhattan. Yet, over the course of six seasons, they occasionally had to travel off the island.
The ShowBiz Cheat Sheet website wrote about it: "Manhattan has become something of a fifth main character on Sex and the City. The city turned out to be the perfect backdrop for Carrie Bradshaw and her girlfriends, where they shopped and found suitable bachelors. However, the plot periodically took them out, either alone or together, to travel around the country. Here are all the times when the girls from Sex and the City found themselves far from Manhattan."
Trips to California
Carrie and her friends were very attached to the East Coast, but that doesn't mean they never left. In the third season of Sex and the City, the group traveled to California. In the two-part epic, Carrie leaves New York to meet with a movie company executive and discuss the possibility of an option on her columns.
In the fifth season, Carrie and Samantha traveled to California again by train to read a book. The trip seemed like a disaster until she managed to pick up Mr. Big for a one-night stand.
The four never returned to the West Coast, although Samantha moved to Los Angeles between the end of the series and the Sex and the City movie.
A trip to Philadelphia
In the fourth season of Sex and the City, Carrie, Charlotte, and Samantha travel from New York to attend the funeral of Miranda's mother. Her mother died and was buried near Philadelphia, where Miranda was born and raised.
Although Miranda had several brothers and sisters and occasionally mentioned her family life, Sex and the City fans learned virtually nothing about her life before she went to Harvard University to study law. After her mother's death, Miranda never mentions a trip to Philadelphia again, despite its relative proximity to New York City.
Travels to Connecticut
Connecticut is home to several of New York City's boroughs, so it makes sense that the heroines of Sex and the City would sometimes travel there from Manhattan. At the very beginning of the series, Samantha, Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda travel to Connecticut together to attend a baby shower for their longtime friend Laney.
Later, Charlotte returns to Connecticut regularly to visit the McDougal family compound. Although Charlotte never mentions where exactly in Connecticut she is staying, there are several wealthy enclaves in the state. Charlotte came from one of them. She grew up in Old Greenwich, Connecticut.
Trips to the Hamptons
Without any particular desire to leave Manhattan, the women always enjoyed going to the beach. Thus, the friends visited the Hamptons twice. During the second season, Carrie finds herself running into her ex and his new love at a beach party. Charlotte suffers no less than Carrie when she has cramps after coming into contact with crabs during a beach vacation.
The trip to the Hamptons in the sixth season turned out to be much happier. Despite the surprise of Bobby Fine and Bitsy von Muffling's sexual orientation, the whole group went to Long Island for a wedding. The wedding was beautiful, Carrie established a relationship with Berger, and Charlotte finally established herself in her relationship with Harry Goldenblatt.
Carrie reluctantly traveled to upstate New York several times
Carrie was the only one of her group who left Manhattan more often than not. In addition to trips to the Hamptons, Connecticut, and California, Carrie was also forced to travel regularly to upstate New York when she was dating Aidan Shaw.
Aidan had a house in Suffern that he was eager to show Carrie. The first trip didn't go well, but she seemed to take to the property over time. The upstate trips ended when Carrie and Aidan broke off their engagement.
For the record, Suffern is a small town in Rockland County, New York, about an hour north of Manhattan.
