Travel horror movies that make your blood run cold: the most famous films
Travel horror movies are classics of the genre. Really creepy things can happen to drivers and passengers on the road, and directors have successfully shown this in their films.
Movieweb has prepared a selection of very scary travel horror movies. After watching them, you will hardly want to go on a road trip yourself anytime soon.
Roadgames
The plot of the movie takes place on the roads of the Australian outback. American truck driver Patrick Quid is driving through South Australia and suspects that the driver of a green van may be killing young women on his way. Convinced that he is witnessing the actions of a serial killer, Patrick embarks on a quest to stop the driver, which leads to a game of cat and mouse between the two. While skilled horror fans may not find this movie scary, the concept of being grabbed and killed while traveling down the road is pretty terrifying.
Race with the Devil
This 70's action and horror movie starring Peter Fonda and Warren Oates is about two couples who are vacationing together in an RV while traveling from Texas to Colorado. While camping in Texas, both couples witness a horrific satanic ritual that ends in murder. The Satanists set out to persecute the four friends, and the cult members terrorize them.
Final Destination
The movie that scared the whole generation of millennials. Tanning salons, roller coasters, laser eye surgery, and elevators are just some of the things this franchise has scared people with for years.
In Final Destination 2, Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) travels with her friends to Daytona Beach for spring break. This part features some of the most horrific deaths, including the infamous truck with the woods scene, as well as many explosions and vehicle malfunctions. It's definitely not a movie anyone would want to watch right before a trip.
Wrong Turn
Two groups of people on two separate trips get stuck in the woods of West Virginia and run into each other on a quiet road. As they go deeper into the woods, they see something that makes their blood run cold.
This is a slasher film that is very loosely based on the supposedly true story of a Scottish cannibal named Sawney Bean. After two groups join forces, they realize that they have fallen into the hands of cruel cannibals.
Children of the Corn
It is based on the book Children of the Corn by the master of literary horror genres Stephen King. They seek help to report the accident, but discover that the town has been abandoned for over three years. It is now run by a cult of religious children who believe that anyone over the age of 18 must die. Led by a boy preacher named Isaac, the children worship a corn god they call the He Who Walks Behind the Rows
