Ukraine wins first gold medal at the 2024 European Wrestling Championships
Ukrainian wrestler Iryna Kolyadenko won gold in women's freestyle wrestling at the 2024 European Championships, which are taking place in Bucharest, Romania. SSPDaily tells about it.
The 25-year-old Ukrainian athlete won in the 65 kg weight category.
In the final match, Kolyadenko defeated Caterina Zelenykh from Romania 6-0.
This is Iryna's third career gold medal at the continental championship. In 2021 and 2023, she won the European Championships in the weight category up to 62 kg, and in the same category Kolyadenko won bronze at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
It should be added that on the second day of the Euro 2024 finals in women's freestyle wrestling, the Ukrainian national team won three awards. In addition to Kolyadenko's gold medal, Solomiya Vynnyk (up to 57 kg) and Yulia Tkach-Ostapchuk (up to 62 kg) became bronze medalists.
In total, the Ukrainian women's national freestyle wrestling team has already won six medals at the current European Championships. Earlier, Alina Filipovych, Tetiana Sova-Rizhko and Anastasiia Osniach (Shustova) won silver medals.
It will be recalled that at Euro 2024, the Ukrainians can also boast of achievements in Greco-Roman wrestling, where Oleksandr Hrushyn (up to 63 kg) won silver, and Zhan Beleniuk (up to 87 kg), Parviz Nasibov (up to 72 kg) and Yaroslav Filchakov (up to 82 kg) won bronze.
