Everyone has been in a situation where they were blatantly lied to, but it was impossible to prove it. A professional lawyer shared simple techniques to catch a liar red-handed.
The Valley Post reported that a well-known lawyer, Jefferson Fisher from the United States, shared several tips on dealing with lying under oath on social media. In particular, the lawyer revealed three tricks that he uses in the courtroom to "catch" a liar at the crime scene and recommended that everyone use these life hacks.
In everyday life, Fisher said, he uses them to figure out if his kids have really brushed their teeth.
So, first, Fisher advises you to be silent for 10 seconds after someone has given a false answer, and then repeat what they said out loud, thereby giving them the opportunity to refuse without consequences.
In 99.9% of cases, Jefferson says, the person who lied cannot stand the pause; it scares them and makes them realize that they have been caught.
"And then the process of 'retreat' begins," the lawyer says.
Next, Jefferson recommends repeating the lie. For example: "So you didn't see the red car?"
"Yes, I give the liar a choice. And most often, I get an answer: 'No, but I could be wrong,' and when they say that, they don't want to lie anymore."
At the end of the procedure, Jefferson allows the person to correct the mistake. "I say something like: 'If you didn't see that red car, it's okay.' In other words, the lie I just told didn't work, so let's start from scratch."
And in nine cases out of ten, the lawyer says, what he is told at the beginning is completely different from what he hears at the end.
