5 ways to use coconut shells beneficially
The fruits of coconut palms are prized for their taste and health benefits. However, the positive qualities of the nuts are not limited to this. Their sturdy shells are used to create a variety of attractive decorative and everyday items.
SSPDaily suggests, "While you can purchase ready-made coconut shell crafts, it's much more enjoyable to create something interesting and original with your own hands. Plus, crafting such products won't require you to spend a lot of money or invest in painstaking preparation."
Coconut Shell Scented Candles
Start by breaking a coconut in half, scraping out the flesh, and allowing it to dry. Then melt wax, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, and mix well.
Next, affix the metal end of the wick by dipping it into the wax in the center of the shell. Afterward, fill the shell with the remaining wax and allow it to harden.
Coconut Shell Lanterns
Take a coconut and drill a hole in the top. Remove the flesh and thoroughly wash the shell.
Using a knife, scrape out the fibers and create a pattern (star, flower, etc.) with a pencil. Drill holes, place a candle or light bulb inside, and hang the shell using a string.
Coconut Shell Soap Dish
Break a coconut into two halves, remove the flesh, and dry it by rubbing it with a cloth and sandpaper.
Use a knife to eliminate the outer fibers until the surface is smooth. Further smooth the surface with sandpaper.
Cut two or three lines on the surface with a handsaw (to drain soapy water), and your dish is ready to use!
Rice Bowls Made from Coconut Shells
Cut a coconut into two halves and remove the flesh with a scraper. Wipe the insides with a napkin.
Use a knife to remove the coconut shell fibers, then rub it with sandpaper to smooth and clean the surface. Apply a little linseed oil inside and out with a brush to varnish the bowls, then allow them to dry. Repeat this process five times.
Coconut Shell Torches
Cut a coconut into two halves and remove the outer fibers with a knife. Soften them with sandpaper. Make a hole in the top of the shell and tie a thick string to hang it.
Use glue to attach several different-colored fabric threads onto the shell. You can create a pattern or drawing of your choice.
You can also attach beads and bracelets for added decoration.
