SSPDaily has prepared five interesting facts about jeans. Find out how this garment became a favorite in everyone's wardrobe.
The first pair of jeans
In 1850, the first pair of jeans was sold in America for just $1.46. Originally designed as a pair of canvas pants with strong double seams and numerous pockets, they were worn mainly by California gold miners. However, they looked very different from the iconic jeans we know today.
Exclusive rights
On May 20, 1873, Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis received patent No. 139121, granting Levi Strauss & Co. exclusive rights to produce work pants with riveted pockets. These pants, which later became known as "jeans," appeared on the market at a price of $13.50 per dozen.
The sign of jeans symbolizing
The iconic Levi Strauss & Co. leather label made its debut in 1886, depicting two horses trying to tear apart a pair of jeans. This distinctive mark soon became synonymous with jeans.
Denim fabric
There are many varieties of denim, and some of the classic types are becoming increasingly difficult to find due to their high cost. Rough, dark blue denim with excellent creasing ability, reminiscent of the denim our parents remember, has become rare. In addition, China played a significant role in the evolution of jeans by introducing stretch denim to the market.
The first women's jeans
In 1981, women's jeans made their debut. This marked a significant shift in fashion and social acceptance. Until that time, jeans were not allowed to be worn in various places by both men and women. However, the cultural landscape began to change, leading to a gradual softening of norms and attitudes towards these pants.
