Having trouble walking your dog outside? Here are 5 types of indoor activities that are great alternatives to walking
Dogs should be walked daily, but sometimes weather or health issues may keep us indoors. What should you do in such situations and how can you make up for your pet's lack of physical activity?
SSPDaily suggests: "Fortunately, there are many indoor games you can play with your dog. Here are 5 options for fun at home for you and your four-legged friend."
"Find the treat"
This game develops your dog's sense of smell. Take a few treats and place them around the room while your dog watches you in a sitting position. Then give the command "find the treat" and encourage your dog to pick it up. Don't forget to praise him when he finds the hidden treats.
Tug of war
A game of tug-of-war is a great way to help your dog expend some energy. Hold one end of a sturdy cloth in your hands and let your dog grab the other end with his teeth. This activity helps your pet develop not only physical but also mental strength. Tug-of-war can also be used for training purposes, teaching your dog self-control and preventing inappropriate chewing.
"Which hand"
Take a treat or something your dog likes in one hand. Close both hands into fists and hold them out to your pet. When he sniffs and puts his paw on the correct hand, open it and give him the treat. It may take a few tries for him to get it right, but be patient and repeat the exercise.
Cuddle session
Sometimes our four-legged friends just need a little cuddle, and nothing will bring them more joy than a cozy session on the carpet or bed.
Create an obstacle course
An obstacle course is a perfect way to exercise your dog's body and mind. Have your pet jump over a few towels, play with toys, and then lie down on a blanket. Create a series of obstacles that your dog has to navigate using his imagination. Don't forget to reward him with treats to keep him motivated to play.
