How to become a professional iPhone user: 8 tricky ways to increase the level of use of your Apple smartphone
If you want to upgrade your iPhone and become a professional user, there are a few important features you should familiarize yourself with. This will expand your capabilities and make your everyday life more comfortable.
SSPDaily has published a detailed guide to the "hidden" features of the iPhone. Here are the most interesting features of your device - from adding additional buttons to creating notes in seconds.
How to use the back of your iPhone as an additional button
Apple isn't a big fan of buttons, which is probably why iPhones don't have many of them. However, the developers managed to add a couple of them to the back of the phone.
This became possible thanks to the Back Tap function, which allows you to perform certain actions in two or three taps on the back of the iPhone. For example, you can take a screenshot or open the Notification Center.
Here's how to use Back Tap on iPhone:
Open the Settings app. Then scroll down to Accessibility - Touch. Scroll down again and select Back Tap - Double Tap or Triple Tap.
Scroll down and select the action you want to perform by tapping the button at the back. Select the Back button in the upper left corner of the screen and repeat the same steps for the other tap option.
Now you can double- or triple-click the back of your iPhone, and you'll see it perform the new action you've chosen.
Note: If you're using a case, your iPhone may not immediately recognize the back press.
How to take quick notes on iPhone
Initially, Quick Note was exclusive to iPad and Mac, but now you can use it on iPhone.
The name is self-explanatory, but this feature allows you to create a new note without having to open the Notes app.
To make a note without being tied to any app, use the Control Center. This is ideal if you need to write something down quickly.
To use Quick Notes, first add it to iPhone's Control Center:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Control Center.
- Scroll down and select the plus sign to the left of the Quick Note control.
This will add the option to the Control Center, and you'll only have to drag the "three lines" on the right side of the Quick Note control to move it up or down.
Then open the Control Center. Tap the Quick Note Control and make a note. When you're done, tap Save in the upper-right corner of the screen. iPhone automatically saves the quick note to the Notes app.
How to download Apple Maps quickly
Apple has made it easier to use the Maps program. Now you can download any map to your iPhone to use offline.
Here's how to do it:
- Open the Maps app.
- Tap your profile on the right side of the screen.
- Select Download New Map.
- Tap Download New Map.
- Search for a location or select your current location.
- Adjust the zoom to select the area of the map you want to download.
When you're ready, tap Download.
Your iPhone will then start downloading. This may take a while, depending on the size of the map. Once it does, you can use it offline.
Important: This feature works in iOS 17 or later software updates.
Automatically delete duplicate photos
It's no secret that the Photos app periodically accumulates duplicate photos that need to be deleted. But you don't want to waste time on it. Fortunately, iPhone can get rid of duplicate photos in seconds. Here's how to do it:
- Open the Photos app.
- Select Albums in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Scroll down and select Duplicates.
Your iPhone will then show you all the photos that are duplicates. Check the list to see if this is the case. Then select the Merge button next to the photos or tap Select in the upper right corner of the screen. Select the duplicates you want to merge and click Merge at the bottom of the screen. As a result, all duplicates will be removed.
How to identify music coming from your iPhone
Shazam is the most popular app that helps you find out the name of a song just by listening to it, and now it's owned by Apple, which has built it into iOS to do some extra cool things.
For example, you can keep Shazam in the Control Center instead of opening it. You can also listen to music coming directly from your iPhone and identify it almost instantly.
To do this, download Shazam and add it to Control Center as follows:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Control Center.
- Scroll down and click the plus sign to the left of the Shazam control.
Now all you have to do is open the Control Center on your iPhone and click the Shazam button. Then close the Control Center and go to the app you want to identify the song that's playing. This feature works in TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and many other apps.
Let Shazam listen to the tune for a few seconds, and you'll get a notification with the song name.
How to use the iPhone keyboard as a trackpad
If you use your iPhone to communicate with friends and family, you know that typos are annoying because you have to delete the entire word and write it again. But what if you didn't have to delete the entire word, but could use the trackpad to navigate to the error to correct it?
Actually, it's possible. The iPhone has a built-in trackpad that's right in the keyboard. To use it, just press and hold the space bar on the iPhone keyboard for a few moments.
The keyboard turns into a trackpad and you can move your finger anywhere to move the cursor. When you release the trackpad, it turns back into a keyboard and you can delete or write as much as you want.
Copy text from any image with Live Text
A few years ago, Apple introduced a feature called Live Text in iOS 15 that allows your iPhone to scan photos you've taken or saved and find text on them.
You can use it to select text from an image, copy it, or even make a phone call if you have a phone number.
To use this feature, take a picture or find a photo with text in the Photos app. Press and hold the text you want to copy, and then press Copy.
If Live Text is annoying, turn it off. To do this, open the Settings app.
Then:
- Scroll to the bottom and select General.
- Go to the Language & Region section.
- Scroll down and turn off Live Text.
How to edit and unsend messages
In iOS 16, Apple finally added the ability to edit or undo messages sent with iMessage. You'll now have up to two minutes to cancel a send and up to 15 minutes if you want to edit a message.
To do this:
- Open the Messages app.
- Find the message you want to get rid of. Press and hold it.
- Tap the Edit or Undo send button.
Please note that to use this feature, not only you must have iOS 16 or later installed, but also your recipient. Otherwise, they will be able to read the message even if you delete it.
