In the pre-holiday bustle, housewives often forget to defrost fish in advance, remembering about it only at the most inconvenient moment. Although the ideal way is to defrost it gently in the refrigerator, sometimes there is not much time. SSPDaily has prepared three tips to help you defrost fish quickly and successfully.
Salt solution
Remove the fish from the package. Prepare a saline solution by dissolving 25-30 grams of table salt in a liter of warm water. If you're dealing with steaks or a medium-sized fish carcass, this method can take as little as two hours. However, remember that defrosting in salt can cause the fish to become slightly drier.
In a water bath
Put the frozen fish in a resealable bag and immerse it in a container of cold water. For even faster results, place the bag under a continuous stream of cold water. This will defrost the fish within an hour, but keep in mind that it requires a significant amount of water.
Microwave
Although this method is not the best for delicate fish, the microwave is an alternative. Select the "defrost" mode, but be careful not to let the timer run longer than 1-2 minutes.
During defrosting, it is very important to monitor the condition of the fish closely, especially if it is to be cut. For best results, it is advisable to cut it into steaks while it is still partially frozen.
