Despite the popularity of artificial Christmas trees, many people still uphold the tradition of bringing a live tree into their homes for the holidays. However, it is crucial to provide proper care to ensure the tree stays alive and retains its needles throughout the New Year's celebrations. SSPDaily offers some tips that will help extend the life of your magical Christmas tree.
Start by allowing the newly purchased tree to acclimate before bringing it indoors. Find a cool place with a temperature of +5...+15 degrees Celsius, where the tree can adjust to the change in environment.
Once the tree is indoors, avoid immediately adjusting or straightening the branches to prevent accidental damage. The branches will gradually straighten out as the tree adapts to the indoor microclimate.
Choose a suitable location for your tree, making sure it is away from heat sources such as radiators or other heating appliances. Excessive heat can accelerate the loss of needles and dry out the tree faster.
Before setting up the Christmas tree, remember to trim the bottom of the trunk to facilitate water absorption. If trimming is challenging, at least remove the bark to improve water absorption.
Once the tree is prepared, place it in a container of soil or sand and pour water over it. To prolong freshness, add an aspirin tablet, salt, and sugar to the water beforehand.
Proper watering is crucial for maintaining a living tree. Regularly check the water level in the container and add water if necessary. Also, lightly spray the tree with water from a spray bottle to keep it moist, especially if it is not decorated with electric lights.
