How to measure and install a window mosquito net
In the summertime, both apartment dwellers and owners of country cottages cannot do without a mosquito net. It does not prevent the room from being filled with cool fresh air and at the same time protects against unwanted dust, insects, or debris from the street. Also, you don't have to worry about pets escaping from the room through an open window or door.

Mosquito nets for windows: advantages
Over time, mosquito screens have become more sophisticated and their performance has improved significantly. For convenience and maximum comfort, roller mosquito nets have emerged as opposed to frame mosquito nets, and for large door and window systems, the best option is a sliding mosquito net.
The modern market offers consumers a wide range of such window accessories. The most common and cost-effective option is frame structures that are easy to install and just as easy to dismantle. Such mosquito nets are easy to use and maintain on a daily basis and are durable in operation.
A standard frame mosquito net consists of an aluminum profile and a stretched fiberglass mesh. Usually, the fabric is gray, almost invisible from the outside. The color of the frame merges or harmonizes with the window.
How to measure a window mesh?
To begin with, it is worth determining the exact dimensions of the window mosquito net – measure the width and length of the light opening of the frame. To ensure the accuracy of the dimensions, the width should be measured in two or three different places; the height – in two. After that, you can order the mesh. After purchasing the mosquito net, you can start installing it.
How to install a mosquito net on a window?
Features of installing a mosquito net using zet-shaped holders:
- The metal holders are attached to the net with a regular Phillips screwdriver if they are not fixed to the frame. You need to take the mosquito net by the handles, put it outside the window, and then install it in the light opening. The next step is to turn all the fasteners 90˚ and fix them on the window seal (black or gray rubber), pressing the holder to the frame. The mosquito guard should fit snugly against the window opening. After installation, tighten all the screws to make the mesh hold more firmly. The main advantage of such fasteners is that the window frame does not need to be drilled, so it remains intact.
Features of installing a mosquito net with pockets:
- To install a mosquito net using this method of fastening, you need to have eight screws with which to screw the upper and lower pockets to the window frame (the upper ones are usually wider than the lower ones). To determine the height of the upper fasteners, measure the distance from the lower fastener, including the height of the mesh itself, and add 1 cm. It is advisable to install the upper elements with these dimensions.
The fasteners for the lower part of the mesh should be located 1.5 cm below the window opening. To fix the frame, you should first insert it into the upper fasteners, and then pull it towards you and lower it onto the lower pockets.
A useful tip: in order not to damage the window frame, you should choose zeta-shaped fasteners. An additional advantage of the holders is that they attach the mesh on the inside of the window, so it is almost impossible to remove them from the street. This method of fixation allows you to remove the mosquito net for the winter period. Pockets are a more economical option. If you decide to dismantle the system, the fastening with pockets leaves holes from the screws on the window frame.
