Exercising in hot weather has its own specifics. And if you are not going to stop training in the summer, you should know some safety rules.
Thus, the online edition of KNBC published an article "5 Tips For Exercising Safely in Summer Heat", which contained several useful tips from doctors at the University of Pittsburgh.
In particular, experts warn that high temperatures are harmful to the body. They say it's even more so if you go in for sports.
Exercising in the heat puts additional stress on the body and increases the risk of heat stroke and dehydration.
To prevent this and continue training, experts advise doing the following:
- Avoid daytime workouts. Move your workouts to the morning or late evening.
- Take regular breaks. Break long workouts into shorter segments. This regimen will reduce the risk to your health.
- Wear the right clothes. It should be light. Don't forget to apply sunscreen to protect your skin from ultraviolet radiation.
- Drink more fluids. This is a key factor during summer training. Drink water before, during, and after your workout. For longer workouts, sports drinks that replenish sodium levels are suitable.
- Listen to your body's "signals". If you feel nauseous or weak, stop and move to a cooler place. Rest and drink water until you feel better.
