Pediatricians say that washing children's clothes after buying them in a second-hand store is mandatory, as all clothes there undergo a special disinfection process. Formaldehyde, a hazardous substance used to kill bacteria, can cause skin irritation, rashes, itching, and allergies.
How to remove the unpleasant odor of second-hand clothes
- Fill a basin with 5 liters of warm water.
- Add 50 ml of medical ammonia.
- Soak the clothes in the solution for 1-2 hours.
- Take out the clothes, rinse them thoroughly and let them dry completely.
- Wash the clothes in a washing machine with a special detergent.
Alternatively, hand washing with laundry soap is an additional method of cleaning. Rinse the clothes in a solution made from 1 tablespoon of grated soap per 5 liters of water. After that, rinse the items several times under running water to remove soap residue.
