Often, even when performing household chores, a splinter can get into a finger or leg. Many people try to remove it with a needle, but there are safer ways to do it. SSPDaily has collected some simple but effective ways to remove splinters quickly and painlessly.
How to remove deeply embedded splinters
If the splinter is deeply stuck in the skin, do not poke the wound with sharp objects, such as needles. Instead, use the following methods:
- Baking soda
Make a paste by mixing 1/4 tablespoon of baking soda with water. Apply it to the sore spot, cover it with a bandage, and leave it on for 24 hours. After removing the bandage, the splinter should come out more easily. If not, repeat the procedure.
- Banana or potato peel
Banana and potato peels can cause the skin to swell, which helps push the splinter to the surface. Cut or tear off a piece of the peel, apply it to the sore spot, secure it with a plaster or bandage, and leave it on for a day. When you remove the bandage, the splinter can be easily removed with tweezers.
- Salt
Prepare a paste by mixing some salt with water. Apply it to the affected area, cover it with a bandage and leave it for 24 hours. The salt will help kill bacteria and facilitate faster splinter removal.
How to remove surface splinters
- Peroxide or white vinegar
Treat the affected area with hydrogen peroxide, and when it starts to foam, the splinter may come out on its own.
- Essential oil bath
Add a few drops of essential oil to a bowl of water and soak the affected finger for 2-5 minutes. The splinter may rise to the surface, making it easy to remove with tweezers.
- Steam
Pour hot water into a container, hold your finger over the steam, and slightly squeeze the skin around the splinter. This will help it come out on its own, or you can gently pull it out with a toothpick.
