How to safely get rid of limescale in a kettle: three life hacks
SSPDaily has prepared a selection of life hacks for safely removing limescale from a kettle. Learn how you can make your kettle shine using lemons, vinegar, and baking soda.
Lemon
Begin by cutting a few lemons in half and squeezing the juice into the kettle, ensuring it covers the areas affected by limescale. Then fill the kettle halfway with water and let the mixture steep for about an hour. Afterward, boil the solution in the kettle to take advantage of the acidic properties of lemons that help dissolve stubborn limescale.
Vinegar
Start by filling a quarter of the kettle with white vinegar and the remaining portion with water, making sure it covers all the limescale-affected areas. Leave the mixture for about an hour to allow the acidity of the vinegar to work on the scale.
Bring the solution to a boil in the kettle, then turn it off to cool slightly. Finally, pour out the vinegar-water mixture and rinse the kettle thoroughly with cold water to remove all traces of vinegar and scale.
Baking soda
Boil a kettle and add three tablespoons of baking soda per 1 liter of water. Stir and leave the mixture for 10 minutes.
Afterward, boil the kettle again and rinse thoroughly with water, ensuring the removal of all residual product. The alkaline properties of baking soda help break down and remove stubborn limescale, leaving the kettle clean and free of scale.
