How to speed up the ripening process of avocados: 4 effective methods
If you bought an unripe avocado but need to get a ripe fruit as soon as possible, don't worry. SSPDaily has prepared some tips to help you with this.
Paper bags
Place the unripe avocado in a brown paper bag and tie it at the top. The ethylene gas released by the fruit will be trapped inside the paper, which will speed up ripening. This process usually takes 2 to 4 days, depending on the initial ripeness of the avocado.
Banana
Place the avocado and a ripe banana together in a paper bag. Bananas give off ethylene gas at a higher rate than avocados, which will speed up the ripening process.
Oven
Preheat the oven to 93°C (200°F). Wrap the avocado in aluminum foil and place it on the rack. Leave the fruit for 10-15 minutes. The gentle heat will speed up ripening, but it will not overcook the fruit.
Rice
Fill a bowl with uncooked rice and place the avocado in it, leaving the stem open. The cereal will trap ethylene gas and help the fruit ripen faster.
