How to use your iPhone to create white noise and where to find this feature
White noise machines are popular for a number of reasons. People use them to improve sleep, minimize distractions, increase concentration, maintain privacy, and relieve stress.
SSPDaily writes: "They are good for putting babies to sleep because the "noise" imitates the characteristic sounds in the womb. Also, due to the compact size of these machines, they are often taken on trips to maintain sleep on the road."
Unfortunately, such devices cost money, on average from 50 to 100 dollars. And here's the good news for iPhone owners - your phone most likely has a built-in white noise feature.
How do I find white noise on my iPhone?
All models starting with the iPhone 6S running iOS 15 or later have a feature called Background Sounds, which is essentially a white noise generator.
Note that accessing Background Sounds may seem a little awkward at first, as Background Sounds is considered a special features feature, but it's not hard if you know where to find it.
Here's what it looks like:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Accessibility.
- Scroll down again and select Audio & Visual.
- Select "Background sounds".
Here you can turn background sounds on or off and choose from six options, including ocean, rain, and stream sounds.
How do I set an accessibility shortcut?
If you use background sounds frequently, you may want to set an accessibility shortcut. This way, you can access background sounds with a triple-click.
Here's how to customize background sounds with this shortcut:
- Open Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Accessibility.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Accessibility Shortcut.
- Select Background Sounds and check the box.
If you select only one shortcut, it will be activated automatically when you triple-click the side button. However, you can select more, in which case a menu will appear after triple-clicking to allow you to select the desired function.
