Black clothes are a great choice for creating spectacular looks. There is a drawback – it is more capricious than it seems. It is important to choose the right shades, cut, texture, and follow the rules of color combinations.
Fashion experts told SSPDaily what mistakes in wearing black clothes can ruin your look.
A combination of black and navy blue
Stylists advise avoiding the combination of black and navy blue in clothes. "These colors are too similar to contrast well, but still not identical, and this creates confusion," explains stylist Sanika Du. "Instead of navy blue, combine black with azure or lighter sky blue.
Black from head to toe
Although a black total look can look luxurious if you choose the right clothes, experts agree that this look is too harsh for most people, especially with age. "An all-black ensemble can blur your image or create a heavy, bulky look," says Du.
Style expert Vivienne Desurmont notes that black can look dull without contrasting elements. "Try adding bright colors to break up the monotony," she suggests, "For example, add a bright scarf or eye-catching jewelry.
Try to appear inconspicuous
"Black can signify elegance, seriousness, and authority, but the problem is that many women wear black to hide something," says Elizabeth Lewis, founder and CEO of Brand, Style & Bloom. "My best advice for wearing black is to do it on purpose.
The stylist recommends mixing black with other colors that emphasize mood and personality.
"Red can signify passion, and yellow evokes optimism," she explains, "Green can signify harmony and wealth, and blue can signify trust. Consider adding some of these colors to your outfit to express yourself more fully, especially if you're used to wearing only black."
Neglecting accessories
Accessories add a pop of color to any outfit, and they're especially important if you're wearing a lot of black. "A lack of accessories can make a look incomplete," explains Desurmont. "Try adding a belt, hat, or handbag to enhance your look.
Ignoring texture
Stylists advise using different textures of fabrics when you wear several black items. This will add depth to the look and make it more interesting. "Textures break the uniformity, making the ensemble more visually appealing," says Sanika Du.
If possible, try to use contrasting textures. For example, try pairing a black velvet top with black jeans or a black satin scarf with a black cotton T-shirt dress.
Combining shades that don't match
There are many different shades and tones of black - some warmer or cooler, some deeper or more muted. Mixing different shades of black can be a bad decision, disrupting the integrity of the image. If you need to combine different black items, they should have the same shade, or completely different textures and fabrics to make the discrepancy look intentional.
Ignoring your body type
Black color will favorably emphasize the figure only if you wear it strategically. If you have a pear-shaped figure with wider hips, stylists recommend focusing on the upper body with a bright color or catchy print. A black skirt or pants will balance the proportions.
For those who have an inverted triangle shape, black should be worn on the upper body, adding volume, color, or a playful print on the hips.
Women with an apple shape can wear a black midi dress or an elongated black jacket, emphasizing the legs. A spectacular pair of shoes or bright accessories will be appropriate.
