Raspberries are a popular berry, so they can often be found in Ukrainians' summer cottages and gardens. It is important not to make mistakes when caring for it. For example, it's better to know in advance when and how to treat raspberries, and what fertilizers are contraindicated. Read about it in the material of SSPDaily.
How to fertilize raspberries properly: what not to use
First of all, it's important to remember one rule: no fertilizers should be mixed. If you want to fertilize raspberries, it is better to choose one thing. For example, first feed the bushes with mullein, and then add ash after 10-15 days.
What fertilizers for raspberries experts do not recommend using:
- Nitrogen fertilizers are not recommended to be applied in large quantities in the fall – they improve shoot growth, but stop raspberry growth, and in winter, young shoots can quickly die;
- if you apply nitrogen fertilizers in the spring, remember that they increase the acidity of the soil – such soil is not suitable for raspberries, so it is better to add wood ash to them;
- when choosing potash fertilizers for raspberries, make sure that they do not contain chlorine – this berry does not take this substance well.
What can be used to treat raspberries
- bird droppings – if you have poultry at home, this option can be considered ideal. The litter is laid out at the bottom of the bucket, which is then filled to the brim with water. The solution is insisted for 5 days in a warm place, and then diluted with water in a ratio of 1:20. This fertilizer should be generously watered all raspberry bushes under the root;
- humus – 1 bucket is scattered on 1 square meter of the area where raspberry bushes grow. It is very important to distribute it equally and to cover it with earth on top. However, remember that pests are very fond of such food, so they feed the bushes no more than once a month;
- weeds – only fresh weeds are suitable for the mixture, which must be cut beforehand (you can also take nettles). They are poured into a quarter of a bucket of water and left for 10 days. Then the bushes are watered at the root;
- mullein – pour fresh mullein (one-third) into the bucket, add water, stir and cover. The mixture is placed in a sunny place for a week to ferment. Then dilute it again in water (1:10). Raspberries are fertilized only in dry weather;
- wood ash – it contains minerals that raspberries need for nutrition. The ash is applied in its pure form. You can also prepare a special mixture – dilute 600 g of ash in 10 liters of water, wait 1 day, and then water the bushes (1 bush needs 2 liters of solution).
