NASA telescope discovers mysterious wanderer planet
The TESS space telescope has discovered its first free-floating planet or rogue planet. Such strange worlds move through space separately from the stars, meaning they are not associated with any stars.
This was reported by SSPDaily.
Astronomers have already discovered more than 5 thousand planets located outside the solar system. But these planets orbit their stars. Now, astronomers using the TESS telescope to search for such worlds have made an amazing discovery – they have discovered a free-floating planet or a rogue planet for the first time using this observatory.
The object was detected using gravitational microlensing when the planet flew against the background of the star TIC-107150013, located at a distance of 10 light years from us. The planet distorted the light of the star, and so it was possible to see it.
According to the scientists, this discovery marks another step toward unraveling the mysteries surrounding these strange worlds that float freely in space.
