To get a high yield, the first thing you need to take care of is the seed. To improve the quality of the seeds so that they germinate faster, they need to be soaked before sowing to accelerate growth. SSPDaily tells about it.
First and foremost, you need to soak and treat the seeds you have collected yourself to disinfect and stimulate growth.
Which seeds need to be soaked before planting
- It is advisable to not only soak tomato seeds before planting but also harden them. Put the seeds in the refrigerator before planting them in the ground to harden them, and then keep them at room temperature.
- Peppers must be soaked. If the peppers are not germinated in advance, the first seedlings will appear no earlier than 20 days later.
- Before planting, celery, parsley, and carrots should be put in a cloth bag and rinsed with hot water for 20 minutes. Then leave them in a damp bag for several days, and then dry them and plant them in the ground.
- Cucumbers, pumpkin, zucchini, and squash should be germinated to increase the chances of germination.
- Beets are soaked and germinated if sown late when the soil is already warm. To sow beets in the spring, the seeds do not need to be soaked, they must be dry.
- Peas, beans, and beans also do not need to be germinated when sown early, but it is better to germinate them when sown late.
How to soak seeds before sowing
- Purified water can be used for soaking, and biostimulants can be added to ensure the emergence of fast germination.
- It is better not to immerse the bare seeds in water, but to wrap them in napkins or filter paper beforehand, with access to air and light.
- The seeds should be covered with water so that the liquid covers the fabric with the seed.
- The optimal water temperature is +25...+27°C, but not less than +20°C.
- To create a greenhouse effect, cover the container with cling film or glass.
- It is recommended to place the container with the seeds in a dark place, out of direct sunlight.
- The soaking solution should be changed every 4-5 hours.
- The time for soaking seeds depends on the crop being grown. Dill, onion, parsley, and carrot seeds are soaked for 48 hours, zucchini, beet, cucumber, watermelon, cabbage, and tomato seeds for 17-18 hours, but peas and beans need to be soaked for 12-15 hours.
What seeds do not need to be soaked
Gardeners believe that there is no need to soak the seeds of lettuce, cabbage, rutabagas, and remontant strawberries. The sowing of remontant strawberries is carried out by spreading the seeds on the ground.
