Raw foodism has gained popularity in recent years, promoting the consumption of unprocessed, raw foods. However, it is important to know that some foods are better not to eat raw because of potential health risks. SSPDaily has told you about the foods that should be properly heat-treated.

Potatoes

Eating raw potatoes can lead to unpleasant bloating. This is due to the fact that it contains a significant amount of starch, which is difficult to digest. It is strongly recommended to cook potatoes for at least 30 minutes, especially if they are older. Although younger potatoes are more nutritious and cook faster, they should still be cooked properly to improve digestibility.

Sausages

Contrary to popular belief, sausages are not ready-to-eat. Although some packages may say so, raw sausages have the potential to cause food poisoning. Moreover, they have been found to contain harmful bacteria called listeria. Therefore, it is very important to cook them thoroughly before eating them to eliminate any potential health risks.

Beans

Raw beans are not recommended due to the presence of phytohemagglutinin, a toxin that can cause food poisoning. To avoid this, beans should always be cooked properly. Soaking and boiling them will significantly reduce the risk of consuming this harmful substance.

Milk

Milk, despite its natural state, can significantly increase the likelihood of food poisoning by about 150 times. Pasteurization - a process where milk is heated to kill harmful bacteria - is necessary to make it safe for consumption. Therefore, it is recommended that you only buy milk from stores that sell properly pasteurized products, and not from unofficial sources such as local markets.

Eggplant

Raw eggplants contain a toxic substance called solanine, which can cause gastrointestinal upset if consumed without proper cooking. Bake eggplants in the oven at a high temperature, making sure they are thoroughly cooked to break down the harmful toxin. This will make them safe and enjoyable to eat.
