Carroll Scores Debut Double for Bordeaux

Former England and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll made an impactful debut, scoring twice for Bordeaux in a 2-2 draw against Voltigeurs de Chateaubriant. The match took place at Bordeaux's home ground, where fans witnessed the striker's return to form.

Carroll, now 35 years old, moved down from Ligue 2 team Amiens to join Bordeaux earlier this month. This transfer sees him drop two divisions in the French football hierarchy. Bordeaux, once six-time Ligue 1 champions, lost their professional status in July. Relegation from Ligue 2 to Championnat National 2 was due to bankruptcy challenges.

In the match, Bordeaux found themselves trailing 2-0 at half-time. Babacar Leye scored two goals just before the interval, putting the away side in control. However, Carroll fought back for Bordeaux. He netted his first goal in the 72nd minute with a low volley while fully stretched.

The dynamics of the game shifted further when Leye received a red card in the 79th minute, reducing Voltigeurs to ten men. Taking advantage of the situation, Carroll equalized in the 88th minute, heading in a well-placed corner from the left wing.

Throughout his Premier League tenure, Carroll scored 54 goals in 248 appearances, playing for Newcastle, Liverpool, and West Ham. On the international stage, he earned nine caps for England, finding the net twice, including a goal against Sweden at Euro 2012.

Currently, Bordeaux sits in 15th place out of 16 teams in their division, tallying three draws and one loss. They possess one or two games in hand over competing teams, presenting an opportunity for improvement in the league standings.
