Last Friday, NASA's Perseverance rover sent new images of the planet's surface. In one of the photos, scientists saw a "donut", a round stone with a hole in the center, surprisingly similar to a well-known bakery product. Small stones of the same color are scattered around the "donut".
The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) tweeted a message commenting on the image from Perseverance. According to scientists, it is most likely a large meteorite surrounded by its own debris that arrived on the planet from the depths of space.
As a reminder, the NASA rover mission started on July 30, 2020. On February 18, 2021, Perseverance landed on the planet's surface and began studying it. The main purpose of the experiment is to collect samples and search for signs of ancient life in place of dried-up streams and lakes.
Initially, it was planned that the rover would travel 10 miles, and it would take it 2 years. Scientists are now considering how to maximize Perseverance's life and continue exploring the planet.
