Aly Michalka Addresses Ricky Ullman Dating Rumors

Aly Michalka recently addressed the persistent rumor about her dating Phil of the Future co-star Ricky Ullman for six years, clarifying that they were never more than friends.

Friendship Clarified

Aly, a former Disney Channel star, discussed various rumors with her sister AJ Michalka. One was the speculation that Aly dated Ullman — known as Ricky — during their time on Phil of the Future from 2004 to 2006.

"No, no. That's funny," Aly shared during her appearance on the podcast Call Her Daddy hosted by Alex Cooper on January 8. "Is this like a thing online?" AJ humorously added, "Literally can attest: never even kissed."

The two shared a friendship. Aly emphasized that they never had a romantic relationship, largely because of their age difference. "That age range felt huge," explained the 35-year-old. "I was 13, and he was 16."

A Small Crush

Although there was no romance, Aly admitted to having a small crush early on. "I remember during the test for Phil of the Future, noticing he was the other boy auditioning. I thought, ‘He's really cute,'" she recalled. However, once they spent time together on set, her feelings shifted to friendship.

AJ interjected, mentioning that they were good friends with Ullman’s girlfriend during filming. This underscores the platonic nature of Aly's relationship with Ullman.

AJ's Romantic History

While Aly didn't date Ullman, AJ revealed that her first kiss was with Disney star Joe Jonas. "In a bowling alley," she noted. "It was so innocent. It was sweet." They met when the Jonas Brothers opened for Aly & AJ on tour and dated for about a year and a half.

AJ humorously tried to set Aly up with Kevin Jonas but joked, "We were not really vibing at the time."

Cherishing Disney Memories

Reflecting on their Disney career, the sisters appreciate their experiences. Aly recalled a significant moment that changed her life: receiving an invitation to a Hilary Duff concert after the first season of Phil of the Future aired. "I got mobbed at this concert," she remembered. "It was the first real time I realized, ‘Oh, people know me from this show.’"
