Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Officially Divorced After 8 Years

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have concluded their divorce, ending a drawn-out legal battle lasting over eight years since Jolie initially filed in September 2016. According to reports, such lengthy proceedings are atypical, with experts like California lawyer Scott Weston suggesting a combination of factors created a "perfect storm." This is prepared by SSP.

The former couple, who share six children, diverged on key issues from the start, leading to protracted disputes, especially in Los Angeles' overburdened court system. Citing irreconcilable differences, Jolie requested custody of their children, hoping to protect her family's well-being. Allegations surfaced that Pitt had been "verbally abusive" and "physical" with the kids during a private flight, prompting investigations by the DCFS and FBI. Although no charges were filed, bruising disagreements about custody persisted.

Animosity spilled into court filings as Pitt sought confidentiality, which Jolie opposed. Both parties attempted to shield their children’s privacy by involving a private judge, John Ouderkirk, who later allowed increased visitation for Pitt and warned Jolie about custody threats if she interfered with the children's contact with their father. However, Ouderkirk was removed after an appeals court identified ethical breaches relating to undisclosed ties with Pitt's legal team, further delaying proceedings.

Meanwhile, a legal scuffle over their jointly-owned Château Miraval in France emerged, adding complexity to the case. Pitt accused Jolie of breaching contract by concealing her plans to sell her share. Despite these challenges, the decision to bifurcate their marriage in 2019 enabled them to be legally single, diminishing some urgency to resolve remaining disputes.

After years of contention, they have officially settled their divorce as of December 30, 2022. Jolie's lawyer shared that she is "relieved" though "exhausted," while Pitt's camp has remained silent. The resolution closes a chapter for the ex-couple, known for their celebrated roles and high-profile relationship, initiated during production of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2005.
