Antarctica suddenly turned maroon: fantastic photos
The sky over Antarctica turned maroon the day before. Incredible footage show this rare phenomenon.
This was reported on Facebook by Serhii Hlotov, a member of the Ukrainian Antarctic expedition at the Akademik Vernadsky station in Antarctica.
It is noted that this is not the first time such a color anomaly has occurred. For example, in July 2022, the sky over Antarctica turned pink. At that time, scientists explained this phenomenon by the activity of the Tonga undersea volcano located in the Pacific Ocean.
"Stratospheric aerosols can circulate around the globe for several months after a volcanic eruption, scattering and bending light as the sun sinks or rises above the horizon, creating a glow in the sky with shades of pink, blue, purple, and violet," he said.
