The Real Cheeseburger from the Thai branch of Burger King, conceived by its creators as a "viral" product, has really caused an unprecedented stir.
CNN Business reports that The Real Cheeseburger consists of 20 slices of cheese between two sesame seed buns. The cheeseburger has no meat, sauce, pickles... only cheese.
The fast-food restaurant posted about its know-how on Facebook to convince customers that it was not a prank. "This is not a joke. This is for real. The Real Cheeseburger is made for those who love cheese."
The information quickly spread on the social network and the burger became popular. At a reduced price, it was sold for 109 Thai baht ($4.70), and people rushed to eateries to try the "cheese miracle."
However, it turned out that this was not a dream of cheese lovers, but rather their nightmare.
Burger King customers wrote on Facebook and other social networks:
"I could only take two bites before throwing it in the trash."
"This sucks... This is terrible. It's just a bun, 20 slices of cheese, and a bun again. There is no sauce."
"It was disgusting: dry, a shock to the digestive system, and a thousand calories of unnecessary melted cheese. There is nothing real about the Real Cheeseburger."
"Maybe they have excess cheese or just hate us"
Popular Thai guide and blogger Richard Burrow also took part in the Burger King "experiment". He shared his impressions on Twitter: "The trend in Thailand is to put cheese on literally everything. Now Burger King has joined Real Cheese Burger. Although I think they forgot the meat!"
"I love cheese, but I had a hard time eating even half of this burger. Maybe I should fry the other half? What do you think?"
CNN journalists talked to Real Cheese Burger customers and mostly heard the following feedback:
"I probably won't try it again."
I like a few slices of cheese on my burger, but not that much.
"I only made it through half of it. There's an insane amount of cheese here. Food is good when everything goes together."
