Gypsy Rose Blanchard is expecting her first child with boyfriend Ken Urker, marking a significant milestone in her life. After serving a 10-year sentence related to her mother Dee Dee Blanchard's murder, Gypsy is ready to embrace motherhood, PEOPLE reported.
In May 2024, Gypsy and Ken discovered their pregnancy one month after reuniting. Before this relationship, Gypsy was married to Ryan Scott Anderson but filed for divorce in April 2024. With their baby girl expected in January 2025, Ken moved to Louisiana shortly after learning the news to support Gypsy.
Discussing her view on relationships, Gypsy expressed her realistic beliefs about parenthood. "I know that realistically, there's going to be arguments too," she stated in July 2024. However, she emphasized the importance of staying together for their child, citing their backgrounds of divorced parents as influential in their agreement. "We don’t want our child to grow up in a broken home," she asserted.
From how she found out about her pregnancy to her commitment to learning from her mother’s past mistakes, Gypsy shared her experiences and insights about becoming a mom.
In past relationships, particularly with Ryan, Gypsy was uncertain about motherhood. During a July episode of "Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up," she confided to her sister, Mia, fearing she was not ready. This concern led to Mia urging Gypsy to take emergency contraception, advice Gypsy respected. "I'm happy I took it," she shared later, affirming that her marriage's instability made it an inappropriate time.
Kristy, Gypsy's stepmother, also acknowledged Gypsy's unpreparedness during her time with Ryan. "She wouldn't have taken Plan B if she was," Kristy explained. This self-awareness highlights Gypsy’s desire to carefully approach motherhood.
After ending her relationship with Ryan in April 2024, Gypsy rekindled her romance with Ken Urker. On May 24, she suspected she might be pregnant. After confirming her pregnancy, Gypsy excitedly shared the news with her stepmother, Kristy. Ken’s reaction was a delightful surprise, showcasing the joy surrounding this unexpected journey.
Kristy recounted the moment, saying, "His face was priceless. He just had a big smile on his face." The couple is filled with excitement for their future as parents.
Gypsy now has a close relationship with her father and stepmother and is keen to adopt the positive parenting strategies demonstrated by Kristy. She admires Kristy’s supportive yet non-overbearing parenting style. Gypsy commented that she hopes her children will feel comfortable approaching her for advice.
"I think she's a kick-ass mom," Gypsy expressed about her stepmother, hoping to emulate Kristy’s supportiveness while still allowing her children to explore their dreams.
Having endured severe abuse from her mother, Gypsy is determined to impart a nurturing environment for her child. "All the things that I wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby," she explained, emphasizing that her views on parenting are vastly different from her mother's.
Gypsy feels fortunate to begin a family, as she recalls how her mother's negative input suggested she would never achieve this. Every new step she takes is significant, emphasizing her commitment to effective parenting.
Gypsy is confident that her experiences will positively shape her parenting style. "I have learned what not to do," she stated, addressing possible concerns about her past.
In August 2024, the couple celebrated their baby's gender reveal by releasing balloons filled with pink confetti, confirming they are having a girl named Aurora Raina Urker. This name holds special meaning to them due to their fascination with the Northern Lights.
"It was maybe in 2018, we wrote each other's future kid's name on pieces of paper," Gypsy noted, underlining the connection between their pasts and this beautiful future.
Upon announcing her pregnancy, Gypsy faced skepticism from the public and comprehends why many doubt her readiness to be a parent. "I think every parent questions whether they're ready," she noted. Yet, she reassured listeners that she is diligently preparing for motherhood through therapy and with strong support from Ken.
