Heather Gay Addresses "Mean Girl" Accusations After Weight Loss

Heather Gay, from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, responded to criticism regarding her change in demeanor since losing over 20 pounds through an Ozempic-like medication. Fans are accusing her of transforming into a "mean girl" following her weight loss journey.
On the January 22 reunion episode, host Andy Cohen asked Heather directly about the fan’s concerns. The viewer suggested that she had adopted a "mean girl energy" after her transformation. In response, Heather challenged that perception, stating, "That's just an interesting read." She reflected on her previous circumstances, explaining that during her heavier years, she often served as the underdog. "I guess when I was heavier, I was more of an underdog so it was okay when I stuck up for myself."

Heather noted that her confidence has shifted since her early days on the show. "Season one Heather had a lot more confidence than this girl sitting here," she revealed. "This show strips you of your ego, it strips you of your confidence." She elaborated, asserting that before her weight loss, she faced tougher battles and exhibited more anger, making this season feel different.
Costar Mary Cosby offered supportive remarks about Heather's evolution. Mary observed, "I feel like Heather is different. She likes herself more, she's pouring more love into herself." She reflected on their first meeting, pointing out Heather's darkness and unhappiness. Now, Heather appears more self-assured. "If she feels like she’s gonna come after somebody, now she’s more confident to do it."
Heather admitted that previously, her body image issues affected her self-esteem. "You have to have a lot more confidence to show up when no clothes fit," she said. Wearing a stretchy jumpsuit among other beautiful women tested her confidence. She acknowledged the difficulties of being in the public eye while grappling with body image challenges.

The emotional exchange peaked when Heather defended herself against negative comments. "Because I am happy and I am proud of myself," she insisted. She clarified, "I am different, but it has nothing to do with the fact that I took medication to make me lose weight."
Previously, Heather was open about the backlash she received for using an injectable Type 2 diabetes drug for weight loss. She recounted, "I've been shamed for just about everything," highlighting that she faced criticism for both her weight and her choice of medication. Despite the challenges, she affirmed, "I'm still the same. I feel the same. I liked myself then, I like myself now."
